It's time for another topic written in English. I have a lot of readers on my blog who have not studied Dutch, so from time to time I accomodate them by writing in English.
So here we go! If you are a polyglot do you have a professional advantage of that fact? I am qualified for office jobs and in my profession lower language levels are useless, so to function in commercial correspondence / callcenter work - office translations - customer care and related fields you need the C1 / C2 - language levels. You would also need them for language teaching in the schools or at the adult education centre. And as a tranlslator / interpreter you need a C2 - level in your foreign language plus an even higher level of proficiency in your native language. Perhaps as a waiter or shop assistant in a tourist area you could function with a B1 / B2 - level as well.
But generally speaking my polyglottery consists of different language levels for different languages, but of profeesional use are only my C1 / C2 - level languages, which are in my case Dutch and English. So I look for jobs as a kind of "language specialist" for these two languages, but not as a polyglot. It's a different situation for people like Richard and Luca from You Tube who have C1 / C2 - levels in many of their languages.
But I would like to hear some opinions and experiences of my readers on this topic. Feel free to give a comment in Dutch or English.
